Wo die Götter wohnen – Die Bergmuseen von Reinhold Messner

On his numerous expeditions since the 1970s, the most successful mountaineer of all time, Reinhold Messner, has collected works of art primarily from the countries of Asia, but also from South America and many other mountain countries of the world. These works of art accompany the mountain peoples as they go through life. The mountain museum in Firmian near Bolzano is the intellectual center and nerve center of the five museums, all of which were founded by Reinhold Messner. The museums also document alpine history with mountaineering relics. The most impressive object is the mountain shoe that protruded from the glacier of Nanga Parbat, where Messner's brother Günther lost his life. These amateur architect-designed museums are carefully thought out down to the smallest detail and impress with their timeless architectural implementation. The castles have been carefully restored so that the old building substance has been preserved and the new buildings blend seamlessly into their surroundings.
