Die Sitcom „Dad's Army“ rund um die Charaktere Captain George Mainwaring, Lance-Corporal Jack Jones und die Kameraden erreichte zwischen 1968 und 1977 nicht nur in England Kultstatus. Die 80 Folgen der BBC-Produktion erzählen die Geschichte der British Home Guard zur Zeit des 2. Weltkriegs. Anstatt an der Front zu kämpfen, schlägt sich die Truppe aus mehr oder weniger diensttauglichen Freiwilligen jedoch eher mit lokalen Problemen in der fiktiven Ortschaft Walmington-on-Sea herum.
