Mit insgesamt zwölf Nominierungen (u.a. Bester Film, Bester Hauptdarsteller und Beste Regie) räumte der britische Film "The King's Speech" die meisten Oscar-Nominierungen ab. Das Facebook-Drama "The Social Network" bekam hinter dem zehnfach nominierten "True Grit" nur die drittmeisten Nominierungen (8), doch das war aufgrund der geringeren Präsenz in den technischen Kategorien erwartet worden.

Überhaupt war die Nominierten-Liste arm an Überraschungen. Einzig die Begeisterung der Academy für "Winter's Bone", der für Film, Drehbuch und die beiden Haupdarsteller-Kategorien nominiert ist, war so nicht vorherzusehen.

Auch deutsche Filmschaffende können am 27. Februar im Kodak Theatre mitfiebern: Die beiden Regisseure Max Lang und Jakob Schuh führten Regie bei der von der BBC produzierten Kinderbuchverfilmung "Der Grüffalo", die in der Kategorie "Bester animierter Kurzfilm" nominiert ist.
